Safe bank operations

If you want to sell to a much larger audience you need to give customers the payment options they prefer — AND an SSL to keep them clicking through to checkout.

World's best encryption

Our SSL certificates use an SHA-2 digest method and 2048-bit encryption to protect sensitive data. Together, they provide the best protection on the market today.

The little green lock

The green lock in the browser bar and the "s" in https mean a site is secure in every language. Have both on your site to show your visitors you care that their data is safe.

Which type of SSL Certificate
is right for me?

Any certificate must be verified by the issuing Certificate Authority (or CA). Although all SSL certificates use similar methods to protect and validate your data, a useful way to categorize them is by validation method. The easiest verification confirms a control of the domain (for DV certificates). However, more steps can be taken to also confirm the existence of the requesting company or organization (for OV certificates) or to establish even more trust through extended vetting (for EV certificates)

SSL
DV
Domain Validation
  • V
    Validates domain ownership

This is the lowest level of authentication used to issue SSL certificates. The Certificate Authority (CA) will issue this certificate to anyone listed as the domain admin contact in the public record associated with a domain name.

  • B
Best for blogs and social websites

Situations where trust and credibility are less important such as personal websites and small forums that need basic encryption for things like logins, forms or other non-transactional data.

  • P
    Pros:

    - Easy to obtain

    - Fast issuance

  • K
    Keep in mind

    - Use only for web-based applications that are not at risk for phishing or fraud.

    - Avoid using for websites that handle sensitive data.

OV
Organization Validation
  • V
    Validates domain ownership and organization

OV is the more secure step up from DV. As well as checking up on ownership of the domain name, the Certificate Authority will also carry out additional vetting of the organization and individual applying for the certificate.

  • B
    Best for businesses and organizations

Public-facing websites dealing with less sensitive transactional data.

  • P
    Pros:

    - More thorough vetting process than DV.

    - Company information is displayed to users.

    - Provides a certain level of trust about the company who owns the website.

  • K
    Keep in mind

OV Certificates do not offer the highest visible display of trust like EV SSL (green browser bar).

EV
Extended Validation
  • V
Validates domain ownership and highest level of organization authentication

This is the gold standard in SSL certificates. EV verification guidelines require the Certificate Authority to run a much more rigorous identity check on the organization or individual applying for the certificate.

  • B
    Best for eCommerce websites

E-commerce sites and websites handling credit card and other sensitive data.

  • P
    Pros:

    - EV Certificates come with the green browser address bar.

    - Increase user trust and lower bounce rates and shopping cart abandonment.

  • K
    Keep in mind

Although EV Certificates have a higher cost, it’s possible to recoup the extra cost of an EV certificate in the form of increased revenue.

In addition you can...

  • Protect Multiple Websites (Multi-domain)

You can protect 1 website or get a discount and protect multiple websites with Multi-Domain SSL Certificate

  • Protect All Subdomains (Wildcard)

In addition to protection of the root domain you have a possibility to protect all your subdomains! This type of SSL Certificates named "Wildcard"

SSL stands for Secure Socket Layer. It might sound complex, but it's really not. SSL Certificates validate your website's identity, and encrypt the information visitors send to, or receive from, your site. This keeps thieves from spying on any exchange between you and your shoppers.

When you have an SSL Certificate protecting your website, your customers can rest assured that the information they enter on any secured page is private and can't be viewed by cyber crooks. GoDaddy makes it easy to install your certificate and secure your server

SSL Certificates inspire trust and show visitors that you value their privacy. An SSL Cert protects your customers' sensitive information such as their name, address, password, or credit card number by encrypting the data during transmission from their computer to your web server. SSL is the standard for web security, and a Server Certificate is required by most merchant account services – you'll need one if you plan to accept credit cards on your website.
When a visitor enters an SSL-protected page on your website, their browser bar displays a padlock icon and the https:// prefix in the URL address. While most Internet users know to look for those SSL indicators, you can also add a site seal to your website to show visitors your site is verified and secured. Visitors can click the seal to view your certificate's status and details, seeing for themselves that it's safe to send sensitive information to your website.

All SSL-protected sites display the https:// prefix in the URL address bar. Sites protected with a Premium EV SSL Certificate display a green browser bar to quickly assure visitors that the organization's legal and physical existence was verified according to strict industry standards.

GoDaddy's Premium EV SSL Certificate involves the most extensive vetting process. We verify the control of the domain and legitimacy of your company by validating the legal name, address, phone number and other business information. The process takes about 30 days, but we've got you covered during that time. EV SSL Certs come with a free Standard SSL to use during the vetting process, so you can keep your transactions secure while you wait.

Godaddy's Standard SSLs usually take 5 minutes or less.

A Wildcard SSL Certificate protects your primary domain, and an unlimited number of its subdomains. For example, a single Wildcard Certificate can secure both www.coolexample.com and blog.coolexample.com.

Wildcard Certificates secure the common name and all subdomains at the level you specify when you submit your SSL request.
